NHS Internal Medicine Residency Accreditation

The Northeastern Health System Internal Medicine Residency was recently awarded its annual accreditation status from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, which is an organization dedicated to establishing and supervising voluntary professional educational standards that are important in the preparation of physicians.

Consistent with NHS’s values of courtesy, accountability, respect, efficiency and safety, the residency program helps to produce graduates who are dedicated and compassionate community leaders prepared to fulfill the healthcare needs to rural and underserved communities in and around Tahlequah.

NHS serves as a teaching health center for primary care in Internal Medicine Residency where residents are offered a unique opportunity to train in a supportive environment. The program's commitment to excellence is underscored by its ongoing ACGME accreditation, with the current number of residents standing at 17.

ACGME standards are designed to ensure that physicians are well-prepared to provide safe and high-quality medical care.

Functioning as a comprehensive medical system in northeastern Oklahoma, the Tahlequah Medical Group Internal Medicine Residency at NHS assumes a pivotal role in cultivating leaders for careers in hospital-based practice and general Internal Medicine. Sponsored by the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium, the program prepares residents for diverse roles within the medical field.

In 2012, the Tahlequah Medical Group at NHS Internal Medicine Residency Program started with just three residents. Today, the three-year program instructs 17 medical residents and is sponsored by the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma.
